Maison d'Hemingway à Key West - Floride

A century before the arrival of the Pilgrim Fathers in Plymouth, the first French and Spanish explorers started to discover the banks of the actual Florida. Juan Ponce de Leon was the first one of these explorers in 1513.

In 1556 the Spanish founded St. Augustine. Robbed off their colony by the English between 1763 and 1783, they retook the property until 1821, when the United States bought Florida from Spain.

At this time, the State was troubled by the Seminole Wars, facing the colonists to the Indian tribes led by Chief Osceola. Started in 1817, it was only four decades later in 1858 that the war came to its end.
