Discover the USA, the online guide dedicated to your journey in the United States of America | | Newport Once upon a time, American billionaires used to had a discreet competition, by showing off their summer residences in Newport, grand manors they called "cottages". The majority of these residences, constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, are now open to public. The most renowned one, which resembles more to a palace than a cottage, "The Breakers", was once owned by the Vanderbilt family. Famous seaside walks of Easton's Beach and Bailey's Beach are not anymore as fashionable, chic, and socialite-ish as they used to be. As main attractions, Newport has now regattas and music festivals of folk and jazz.

In the northwest of Providence lies the historical Blackstone Valley, keeping the remaining traces of American Industrial Revolution. | | | In the south of Rhode Island, South County is reputated for its vast sandy beaches, its fishing points, and its beautiful forests. You should go in an Atlantic minicruise up to Block Island, about 18 km away from the coasts. The ferryboats for this cruise sails off from Newport, Providence and Galilee, near Point Judith.
