Cleveland Museum - Ohio

Cleveland

Founded in 1814, Cleveland is one of the most dynamic American cities. It stretches along the banks of Lake Erie and River Cuyahoga in Ohio. The city was founded in 1796 by General Moses Cleaveland. His expansion dated back to the first half of the 19th century.

The center of Ohio is symbolized by The Mall, where you can find the Federal Building, the Country Court House, and the Cleveland Stadium. A great view can be seen from the observatory terrace of Terminal Tower, a 52 story building of 218 m (708 ft) high.

The Auto-Aviation Museum houses a collection of about 130 "tacots" and "coucous" of the Beautiful Era. The Historical Museum presents relics tracing the Indians living in Ohio in the past.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the top five art museums in the country; its collections are the most in the term of variation and go from the Egyptian antiques to contemporary arts. We can also admire the European grandmasters's works such as Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir and Greco.

The Cleveland Orchestra is also wordly renowned. It is in Severance Hall that we can come to admire their music.

The charming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, wordly renowed museum, houses in its glass pyramid (an artwork of I.M. Pei) hundreds of guitars, collections in every genres, surprising audiovisual samples. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame introduced on March 13, 2006, its new artefacts selected by a committee composed byrock historians and about 700 international experts. Miles Davis, the Sex Pistols, U2, and some other eligible candidates will enter the Pantheon of Rock.

Colombus - Ohio

Akron

Akron, 56 km south of Cleveland, is the capital of rubber. We will visit the Tire & Rubber Companies Firestone and General in this town. Both enterprises produce tires and rubber products.

 

 

Columbus

Columbus, Ohio's capital, is located in the center of the State, it is also the State's largest city. The State Museum expose some very beautiful collections of archeological and mineralogical specimens.

Cincinnati - Ohio

 

Cincinnnati

Cincinnati, 160 km southwest of Columbus and at the southwestern extremity of the State, was described by Charles Dickens as "place with a vrey strange taste".

The depression surrounded by hills and crossed by the Ohio River witnessed, at first, the installment of a colony named Losantiville, to which a rapid development occurred, thanks to its privileged situation. A big number of German immigrants came to live there during the 19th century.

The 29 story building of Carew Observatory offers a splendid view towards the city, the Ohio River and the far away cliffs.

Discover also the Taft Museum, the Cincinnati Art Museum, Union Station built in 1933, as well as the house of American woman writer Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of the famous anti-slavery book "Uncle Tom's Cabin" - the house is located on 224w Liberty Street.

Amusement Park King's Island is located 35 km north of Cincinnati.

 

The steamboats once navigating on the rivers of Ohio, transporting freight or passengers, played an important role in the initial development of the State. You can have a very nice cruise on a steamboat going down the Ohio and the Mississippi, final destination is New Orleans. Based in Cincinnati, the steamboat called "Delta Queen" has a routine cruise schedule of 3 to 20 days.
