• Greyhound Bus

The Greyhound buses was created in 1914 in Hibbing under the name of Mesaba Transportations Company. It was then a service run by a Swedish immigrant named Carl Eric Wickman. For 15 cents, the buses transported miners between Hibbing and Alice in Minnesota. Today the company counts about 2,200 destinations across the country and about 21 million passengers every year. Today, the 2,300 buses of the River Greyhound have become a mythical symbol of the American highway.

Affiche Greyhound

Within this country the size of a continent, the question of transports between cities has always been an important issue. Before the universal car era for everyone and before the development of airlines, the Greyhound buses were the best "modern" way to commute between American cities.

Even today, when the rivalry and competitions between public and individual transports are larger than ever, Greyhound still continues its marvelous success and stays the synonyme of the "Call of the Road".

If it is less faster and less practical than the plane, it is still indeed the best way to discover the country and its people. Riding on a Greyhound, you will get in touch with the Real America, men and women you would meet on the road. Never hesitate to talk with them, to ask them questions, you will learn much from your next-seat neighbors, about America and its culture, along the distance between Amarillo and Tucson, between Jackson and Memphis... Time to practice your English skills!

And traveling by bus means traveling on the grounds, closer and better view on the wonders you might find on the way; the multitask chauffeur : capitain of his vehicle and a touristic guide sometimes, would be happy to give some comments when driving across the cities and the landscapes.

Finally, traveling by bus is a pleasure to take your time, to plan your journey, to change your time everyday as you like, it is a pleasure to discover that you would need three days and three nights to travel from New York to San Francisco.

The International Discovery Pass

The Pass is the best answer to travel with Greyhound.

Reserved uniquely for international tourists, it is the most economic way for a trip crossing America. The pass proposes you all bus trajectories throughout the country (except Alaska) as well as some destinations in Canada and Mexico. Valid during the period from 4 to 60 days, the pass is NOT a ticket, it allows you to get your ticket for every distance you take.

The Trip

Even though taking bus is a less comfortable means of transport when compared to trains or planes, it is still less stressing than driving your own car.

It also allows you to travel long distances without the necessity to stop every night to rest. As a traveler, you can take the bus at night, spend your night inside the bus, and arrive (almost) fresh at your destination the following morning.

Every Greyhound bus is equipped with painted panoramic windows, toilets at its back - generally very clean, aircon, and inclinable seats that could always help you save the money for one night at a hotel all by traveling a long distance.

Moreover, the chauffeurs stop every three or four hours, if possible near a small cafe along the road,  just to stretch your legs a little, or at mealtimes at affordable restaurants where you can get your pizzas, hamburgers, chicken, sandwich or salad.

Attention : A limit of 2 big bagages are applied here, plus 2 small ones you carry with you in the bus (kids : 1 big and 2 small). And please note that smoking is strictly prohibited.
